Haryana: Millers running behind schedule, only 10.88% rice delivered in Karnal

Rice millers in the district are falling behind schedule in delivering the custom-milled rice (CMR), with only around 10.88 per cent of the rice delivered from the total allotted paddy. This figure falls below the state’s overall delivery to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) of 18.71 per cent.

According to the CMR policy, each rice miller is required to deliver 67 per cent of the total allotted rice.

The delivery schedule mandates 25 per cent by the end of December, an additional 20 per cent by the end of January, followed by another 20 per cent by the end of February, with the remaining 25 per cent due by the end of March and the final 10 per cent in April.

Official data provided by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Haryana State Warehousing Corporation and Hafed of Karnal district reveals that a total of 9,83,123 metric tonnes (MT) of paddy have been allocated to 274 millers across the district. Of the 6,65,279 MT of paddy to be delivered, they have only managed to deliver 72,397 MT so far, indicating a slow pace of rice delivery.

The data revealed that Jind delivered 26.46 per cent of the rice, followed by Sirsa (23.31%), Ambala (23.15 %), Fatehabad (21.89%), Yamunanagar (20.68%), Kurukshetra (20.06%), Kaithal (16.87%), Panchkula (12.22%), Hisar (8.84%), Rohtak (4.73%), Panipat (3.5%) and Sonepat.

Expressing his concern over the delayed deliveries, Deputy Commissioner Anish Yadav has directed the agencies to ensure the timely fulfillment of delivery targets. “I have asked the agencies to expedite the delivery of CMR,” he said.

District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC) Anil Kalra said they had asked the millers to accelerate their delivery efforts.

“The government had earlier imposed a condition that required an undertaking to be taken in order to ensure the quality of fortified rice kernels (FRK) to be taken from others. Later, the government withdrew the condition in January. The government has asked the millers to purchase the FRK from the open market. We started getting the FRK from January onwards, so we need more time for the delivery of the CMR. We have requested the government to reschedule the CMR delivery up till June 30,” said Gupta.
