Punjab: PO arrested in ₹33cr paddy scam in Asr dist
Punjab vigilance bureau has arrested a proclaimed offender in a Rs 33 crore paddy scam exposed in Amritsar district. Gulshan Jain, a resident of Jandiala in Amritsar district, was arrested in connection with the FIR registered on April 5, 2018.
The case had been registered against 10 accused, including directors and owners of Veeru Mal Mulkh Raj Rice Mill, who are Jain’s family members. Additionally, officials from the department of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs were also booked for their alleged involvement in the misappropriation and pilferage of paddy allotted to the mill by state govt procurement agencies amounting to Rs 33 crore.
Jain was initially arrested by CBI from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in connection with other cases registered against him by the agency.The vigilance bureau, after obtaining his production warrant, arrested him in the paddy scam on Thursday after which the court granted Jain’s five-day police remand
