Telangana: Farmers stage ‘rasta roko’; demand action against rice millers

Farmers staged a sit-in on a road demanding action against rice millers for deducting about 2 kilogrammes of paddy grains per bag of grains containing 41.300 kg while procuring paddy under the guise of poor quality and moisture at Perakapalli village in Dasturabad mandal on Tuesday.

Scores of farmers from the village gathered and blocked the traffic on the Nirmal-Khanapur road, affecting vehicle movement for a while. They demanded the officials to take action against the millers for deducting nearly 2 kg of paddy per bag of the grains at the time of buying the grains from the growers.

They regretted that they were registering losses due to the practice of the millers. They withdrew the protest when police and revenue officials assured them of justice by enquiring into the allegations. The police and revenue officials told the agitators that they would bring the issue to the notice of higher officials and take action if the millers were found guilty.
