Telangana: Singareni to set up Green Hydrogen plant in Ramagundam
Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) will establish a Green Hydrogen plant in Ramagundam, with Chairman and Managing Director N Balaram directing officials to fast-track all processes related to the project.
The CMD’s directive follows a positive feasibility report on the proposed plant. Once operational, it is expected to produce 5 tonnes of green hydrogen per day, bringing significant financial benefits to the company, Balaram said during a review meeting at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, on Thursday.
He also highlighted the potential for large-scale geothermal power generation in the Manuguru region. Based on technical reports and discussions with ONGC, he instructed officials to begin groundwork for jointly setting up a major geothermal plant in the area.
Balaram further called for swift completion of feasibility studies for wind power projects atop overburden dumps in open cast mines. He also directed the team to explore the viability of establishing pumped storage power plants at Medipally and other opencast sites, and to prepare detailed project reports accordingly. Officers were told to approach these studies with seriousness and urgency.

On the solar front, Balaram reviewed the progress of the ongoing 122 MW solar plants and instructed officials to ensure their completion by October. He also ordered the immediate commencement of construction on another 137 MW of solar capacity, for which tenders have already been finalised. These, he said, must be completed within a year, taking SCCL’s total installed solar capacity to 504 MW.
Any delays in executing solar projects will result in action, Balaram warned, adding that both agencies and supervising officers would be held accountable for lapses or delays. He reiterated that negligence in project execution would not be tolerated and timelines must be strictly adhered to.
Referring to the 1,500 MW solar plant project in Rajasthan under an agreement signed with the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL), Balaram said a high-level SCCL team would soon visit the project site to review progress.
