Haryana: Fresh irregularities surface in paddy procurement at Kunjpura grain market
In yet another case of alleged irregularities during the paddy procurement season 2025-26, fresh irregularities have come to light and this time at the Kunjpura grain market, exposing an alleged scam running into crores.
A complaint was filed by Vikas Sharma from Kharajpur village with the Karnal Superintendent of Police (SP) on Wednesday, in which he alleged that 83,638 bags of paddy were allegedly shown as transported on paper from Kunjpura grain market to eight rice mills using 119 gate passes. Paddy was allotted to 10 rice mills for custom-milling rice (CMR) from Kunjpura grain market. A total of 536 gate passes were issued during the season, against which 3,68,061 bags of paddy were shown as procured. He alleged that in 119 gate passes, the distance between the mandi and the rice mills was shown as zero, indicating transactions that existed only on paper.
Earlier, Sharma had raised similar irregularities in the Assandh grain market, in which Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh assigned an inquiry to the ADC.
The government had made GPS tracking mandatory to ensure transparency, with the procurement agency’s portal automatically recording the distance covered by transport vehicles. Sharma further alleged that Kunjpura mandi, records show that a single vehicle completed 16 trips, but in one of those trips, the distance recorded was zero — raising strong suspicion of manipulation. The outgoing SP Ganga Ram Punia said an inquiry in both the complaints had been assigned to two DSPs.
