By Yajati Rout

The Government of India has today approved the procurement of pulses and oilseeds under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the Rabi season of 2025–26 during a video conference meeting led by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Deputy Chief Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

Earlier, the Odisha government had requested this support from the Government of India. The approved crops include pulses such as Green Gram and Black Gram, along with oilseed crops like Sunflower, Groundnut, and Mustard.

Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo emphasised the need to strengthen sunflower production in Western Odisha, particularly in the Kalahandi district, to provide better price support for farmers. He assured that the State Government would continuously monitor procurement operations under the Price Support Scheme throughout the 2025–26 season to ensure transparent and timely procurement of farmers’ produce. This initiative aims to provide farmers with remunerative prices for their harvest.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, Director of Horticulture Kalunge Gorakh Waman, and senior officers from the agriculture department.
