Indore (MP):District admn seizes 500 quintal PDS grains
District administration seized around 500 quintal of grain meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) through government-run fair price shop late on Wednesday night.
“Acting on a tip off, a team of food department carried out a search at a godown of Devshree Trading Firm in Narwal industrial area and seized around 100 quintal grains. Later, the team reached Balaji Tolkanta in the same area and seized around 400 quintal grains,” ADM Gaurav Benal said.
“A probe has been launched to find out how both these firms acquired such huge quantities of PDS grains. Storing such a huge quantity of PDS grains increases suspicion of black marketing of the same and therefore, role of the fair price shop contractors, if any, is also being examined” he said.
Senior administrative officials said that strict action would also be taken to recover outstanding penalty imposed in illegal mining cases in Indore. “A penalty of Rs 37.21 crore will be recovered in 12 cases of illegal mining. As a result, property of defaulters will be seized. All these cases are from 2014-15 to 2023-24, in which the administration has enforced the penalty, but the defaulters have not submitted the same,” the ADM said.
